"Learn to Foster the Healing Power of the Horse"
2008 HPITS DATES: (JANUARY 18-27, MARCH 10-MAY 31, AND SEPT 3-NOV 12.)
Horse Power's Instructor Training School specializes in Equine Facilitated Mental Health and Equine Experiential Learning. The first-of-its-kind program offers an unparalleled learning experience leading to national NARHA Instructor Certification. To date, 42 graduates, ranging from 18 to 63 years of age, have successfully completed the rigorous program of riding, teaching, training and coursework.
The program meets the educational and experiential needs of Instructor Training Candidates who aspire to national NARHA Instructor Certification at the Registered or Advanced Levels.
Instructor Training Candidates (ITC’s) who desire an emphasis on Equine Facilitated Mental Health and Equine Experiential Learning are given first priority for program acceptance.
The training for ITC’s occurs over a three-month period in spring or fall. The curriculum includes:
• Orientation
• Classroom presentations and demonstrations.
• A horsemanship lecture series.
• Business workshops to learn "behind the scenes" strategies for keeping EAA programs thriving.
• Riding lessons 2x per week in Balance Seat (with jumping), Western, Centered Riding or Classical Dressage.
• Many hours of supervised practice teaching of students with physical and cognitive challenges.
• Guided reading of NARHA required references.
Related workshops for ITC’s and non-ITC’s, including the option of attended NARHA National Conference in November for fall season participants.
• Job placement assistance.
Upon successful completion of the exam and course, candidates may graduate at the Registered or Advanced Instructor Level. Upon passing the NARHA Instructor Certification Exam, students gain national certification as a professional therapeutic, horsemanship instructor in this exciting and fast growing profession.
Additionally, graduates will have advanced their horsemanship and riding skills while having learned how to train horses for the field.
The Founder, Faculty, Staff and Board of Directors of Horse Power are pleased to introduce you to the two types of residential Training Opportunities that we now offer.
THREE MONTH INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS SPRING OR FALL.
We began with our Horse Power Instructor Training School, which is one of 4 nationally approved NARHA Instructor Certification courses in the United States. All four of these programs are held on site at a NARHA Premier Accredited Therapeutic Horsemanship Center. Individuals who take this course and pass the NARHA certification requirements are eligible for NARHA Instructor Certification at the Registered or Advanced level.
10 DAY WINTER INTENSIVE PROGRAM FOR INSTRUCTORS, THERAPISTS, EDUCATORS, FARM OWNERS OR ADMINISTRATORS.
Due to frequent requests from individuals who could not get away from their farm, practice, classroom or family for three months but who wished to come to Horse Power, we created this shorter course. It does NOT culminate in certification for instructors. However, it IS the perfect introduction for those wanting to know about how to begin fostering the healing power of the horse for their students, clients, classes or farm program. It has the “plums” of the longer course without any teaching or actual students/clients or regular riding lessons or horsemanship.
JANUARY 5TH FROM 1 TO 4pm AT HORSE POWER.
Come to see the farm, meet the faculty, enjoy the horses and see if any of our programs are right for YOU! We will offer refreshments, farm tours, an overview of the curriculum, answer your questions and help you decide is this is where your path leads. Call you reserve a spot for you at this information session.
